Turbo Technics Pre KStar ECU

Part Number: 2462-60101
Model Number: 8901
This component is the heart of the TT pre Kstar system, the unit takes inputs from the MAP sensor and hall effect sensor then triggers the 5th injector and retards the ignition timing by 5 degrees to minimize the possibility of pre-detonation when the engine comes onto boost. This will begin with a brief explanation of the unit and then go into more depth with the electrical pinouts, and finally a deeper look into how the unit functions on a circuitry level.
Appearance and composure
The unit is made and assembled in the UK by Turbo Technics themselves, the exterior casing is comprised of aluminium and appears to be untreated as it has oxidised slightly over time. The dimensions of the unit are as follows.

Width – 120mm

Depth - 95mm

Height - 33mm

There is a male electrical connector positioned on one of the longer sides of the casing, mid-way across. The casing is not weather proof at all, with no gaskets or seals being used between the connector and casing, a mild splash of water could easily enter the casing and come in contact with the boards and circuitry.
The original markings may even be visible on your unit as they were on mine, where the operative at TT cut the connector port out of the case. It would be proactive to install the ECU inside the car, or in a place where water contact was kept to an absolute minimum. If this is not feasible an outer casing may be appropriate, keeping in mind the unit can generate some heat during use.

Connector

The electrical connector used to mate the ECU with the wiring harness is a 15-way Molex type .093 Part No. 03-09-1151. This model of connector is polarised and utilises push in contacts with the same part number of .093. These are readily available off the shelf from a multitude of electrical component suppliers such as CPC and Farnell.
Any crimp tool with interchangeable heads should be suitable for installing these onto wires, the specialist extraction tool from Molex part No. LLC 0011030006 may be required to do this without damaging the contacts and connectors.

Electrical pinouts

As the pre Kstar TT system is relatively basic, the pinout of the ECU is quite simple as well with the 15-way connector only partially populated, the pinout is as follows.
